Combined Orbital Operations, Logistics and Resiliency (COOLR)

COOLR, Consolidated Orbital Operations and Logistics - Resiliency, contract supports DoD MILSATCOM programs. The COOLR contract provides the following services for the Space and Missile Systems Center Military Satellite Communications (MILSATCOM) Systems Directorate (SMC/MC): This contract provides support for the sustainment of the DSCS III and Strategic SATCOM (Milstar Block I, Milstar Block II, and Advanced Extremely High Frequency (EHF) (AEHF)) satellites and ground systems through SMC/MC designated MILSATCOM operational and training sites.


Primary responsibilities are participating in the implementation, maintenance, and support of information technologies, to include Solaris (primarily), Red Hat Linux, and Windows systems and components. The engineer schedules and performs installations and upgrades to OS/COTs, software, and database packages in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. In addition, this position will support the overall integration on new development systems as they transition to sustainment. The engineer is responsible for managing appropriate software solutions to ensure server data integrity, monitoring and tuning the system to achieve optimum performance level, monitoring security alerts and application systems, and working with other staff to ensure that all appropriate patches are applied. The engineer will develop scripts using Z-Shell, C-Shell, Perl, or other similar tools to improve administration automation. The selected candidate will also develop and apply cybersecurity solutions utilizing current DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) to ensure high compliance status is met.

Required Skills:


-5+ years of experience administering Solaris systems administration/engineering, including Solaris 10 & 11 on SPARC and x86 platforms

-DoD 8570 Certification (Minimum Security+ or equivalent)

-5+ years experience with VMWare, Oracle VM, Hyper-V or other virtualization platforms

-Scripting experience required

-Solaris patching experience required

-Extensive LDAP experience preferred

-Familiarity with cybersecurity practices (virus protection, applying vendor critical patches, system accreditation, etc.)

-General understanding of ClearQuest and/or ClearCase

-Experience with database installations or configurations

-Ability to quickly learn new, complex systems and become the expert in first line response

-Ability to work effectively with corporate team mates and Government customers

-Strong organizational and written communication skills

-Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills

-Able to precisely follow instruction and procedures

-Ability to work equally alone and in a team environment

-Ability to correctly and accurately complete work documents


-Windows systems administration helpful

-Cyber Security (CS) and Information Assurance (IA) subject matter expertise

-Medium or greater proficiency with Microsoft Office products

Bachelors or higher; Security+ Certification or equivalent/higher; in lieu of degree, equivalent experience will be considered
